Utilizing AI This Semester: ryco.io Tips for College Students

Jenna Vaske

Hi, it’s me, Jenna, the Social Media Outreach Intern here at ryco.io. As my fellow college students know, coming back from summer or winter break can be… difficult, to say the least. The groove you got into at the end of last semester can feel impossible to achieve again. Homework for 3+ hours each day on top of a part-time job–all while making time to “maximize the college experience”–is easier said than done. But here’s the good news: AI can be your tutor, personal assistant, planner, or secret weapon to get you back into the school grind faster than you thought possible.

Updating Your Planner

For students like me who survive school with an up-to-date planner—packed with due dates, homework times, work schedules, and even plans with friends—getting your planner started ASAP is key to kicking off the semester right. However, adding all the class information from your syllabi is often the most time-consuming part.

This year, I asked ChatGPT to do it for me. After just a few prompts, I gave ChatGPT all of my syllabi and, within minutes, it created one cohesive, list-style calendar. Instead of spending 30 minutes manually entering everything into my planner, it only took me 5 minutes to double-check and input the details. With the extra 25 minutes, I told all my friends about what I’d done in hopes of converting them to this efficient way of tackling a tedious task.

Refresh Your Memory on Old Material

Since I had already uploaded my syllabi to ChatGPT, I decided to use it to help me refresh my memory on old material before I stepped into my first class of the semester. So, I asked ChatGPT to generate relevant examples of topics from the syllabus agenda so that I could take a few minutes to remember prior material I had learned before class. This was a really great way for me to reacquaint myself with the material of my course without rifling through old notes; within moments, I had a mini crash course tailored to what I’d be learning this semester.

Spending just 10 minutes reading through these AI-generated notes gave me the confidence boost I needed, and I walked into class ready to focus, participate, and get back into the swing of things.

Make a Creative Meal from Your Leftover Cabinet Foods

Coming back to your apartment after being away for a few weeks can feel pretty bleak. My pantry was down to brownie mix, peanuts, protein powder, oats, and cocoa powder–not exactly the ingredients of culinary dreams. Instead of caving and spending money on takeout, I tried asking ChatGPT for a little cooking inspiration.

It suggested making ‘Protein-Packed No-Bake Brownie Bites’, a really good use of all of my leftover ingredients. Included were measurements, directions, and substitution options. The bites were surprisingly good and the perfect snack to hold me over until I could go grocery shopping the next day.

Start Your Semester Strong with AI

This semester, try letting AI help you where it can: getting your schedule organized, refreshing yourself on the content you’ve already learned, and even helping you make a few creative, college-budget meals. It’s surprising how much more prepared and energized you’ll feel when these little tasks are out of the way.

Oh, and ask ChatGPT for the Protein-Packed Brownie Bites recipe–you won’t regret it!
